The Bristol Scout, designed just prior to WW1 by Frank Barnwell, proved to be one of the most popular planes for pilots in the war. It was a masterstroke of design and set a standard for other aircraft designers and engineers to follow. This book covers the Scout's development alongside the restoration of the author's grandfather's plane, which is currently the only airworthy example in the world.

The book manages to weave personal and aviation history together with the trials and tribulations of both the planes development and, almost a hundred years later, its restoration. At Aerospace Bristol we have a replica Scout Type 'D' which is mentioned in the book.
